DGTS is a Danish sim racing team, that I often race with. DGTS also runs Danish GT Series that include various series on iracing. Besides running open series on iRacing, they also have a team, that runs the official iracing endurance races, the special events, and any other series or race that may interest them. The only requirement to join the club is that you can speak and understand Danish. If you can, then come join them on Discord here.
I helped them make their logo, some time back but for this project, we needed variations of that logo for each car that may run a series. So if DGTS joins a race with 3 cars, they would need to have 3 different DGTS flavours, that viewers could distinguish. Most teams that have the same wish, run cars in different colors. To do things a bit differently, we talked about using something different than colors. This resulted in a lot of tests with many variations og DGTS flavours. My first idea was the Earth, Wind and Fire series. I really liked this, because they combined a creative series, they had a slight color variation and they looked cool!
We tried a lot of different series, to test things out and see how they worked, but at some point you get out of track, and just try out silly things.
The options above are great, because you maintain the DGTS identity while at the same time can assign a face or brand to the car that caries the logo. Although fun, and different, we ended up trying out the color variations anyway. They are more neutral, and easier to apply to several different cars.
Colors are a very popular way of identifying cars on track. They are more discreet, anonymous and neutral. Also they are easy to spot from a distance, and can be easier to apply to cars across series, models, makes etc. Eventually we ended up with the versions bellow.
After some messing around and testing, we settled with variations picked to stick out of the base colors like black or white. This way they wont be mistaken as part of a base livery, but as actual identifier colors. Also the style was kept very simple, and it still preserved the DGTS brand.
I think the result worked out pretty well, and the team now has a clear, but subtle variation option for all of its cars.
