It’s actually a lot of fun!
Horizon 3 saved the day
A little while back, we did a short article about Forza Horizon 3, and if it is worth buying. Personally, i had only played Forza Horizon (1) for a few hours, and that was all i knew about the Horizon series. So in my head, Horizon is a cute racing game, with lots of action, and beautiful cars. I was not going to buy Horizon 3 right away, but maybe wait a few months and get it when things had settled down a little. I got carried away by the hype though, and ended up preordering he game, in its full glory (VIP, early access, free cars etc.)
The good thing, is that it was released a day where i was having a bad day. Forza 6 was difficult for me that day, because after a great week, of really fun and good racing, in lobbies, hoppers, groups etc. I now got upgraded to the Elite division, the competition was a lot harder, and therefore i was again the back of the field. I needed a break, so i tried loading Forza Horizon 3 as it was already past midnight, and i hadn’t had much fun that evening. To my surprise, the game started loading, and i thought: “i’ll just try it out for 30 minutes”…
So – thats why nothing much has happened to the site the last couple of days. After 3 days, i still have mixed feelings about Horizon 3. Its a really really nicely made game with loads of action, stunning cars and beautiful locations. The driving is much easier than Forza 6 and less realistic, but you still have to consider your driving lines. You can’t go full throttle all the time (even though there are some straights were it feels like it.
Honestly i have had some sessions where i got bored. After 2-3 hours i lost interest and it all felt a bit silly. Actually, in the 3 days i’ve played the game, i’ve had 2-3 periods, where i thought this was getting trivial, and would go on for ever. I’ve never had this feeling with Forza 6.
The positive side, is that Forza horizon gets a lot more interesting, once the online features get unlocked, and you start racing/driving with your friends. It seems like the game is going to be a fun place to be, when you need a brake, and just want to have some fun. I don’t think it will be a game where i get hooked, and will work on all details to get the most out of it, but it will surely be a racing playground when i need a break from the serious stuff.
The bottom line is, that the game is a lot of fun, but for me it’s not going to be something i’ll go too deep into and explore all races, features and roads. I’ll use it to have some fun, meet up with friends and do some street racing. Maybe even set up some tournaments for fun. That being said, this is the type of game that got me hooked on racing, and it certainly deserves its place on the market. If it wasn’t for the good old Burnout series back in the late 90s, Need for Speed, and Grand Tourismo, i wouldn’t be having fun racing today.
