The 2020 km Quarantine race

If you are the kind of person who always looks for the positive sides of everything, even a catastrophy, then here is one more that you can add to COVID19 pandemic. It has done wonders to the hobby of sim racing! Many pro drivers have taken to their simulators, and done some spectacular racing, probably mostly for the sake of their fans, and to have fun, than to actually race. At the same time, a lot of custom series, and endurance races have popped up, because people have so much time to kill.

This is one of these races

Daniel Handover, from the Absolute Dan YouTube channel, has come together with a few friends and Positively Racing, to host an endurance race at Silverstone. It will be a 2020 Km race that should equal approximately 343 laps.

The Cars

It is nice to see an endurance style race, that is not run with the classic IMSA / Le Mans lineup. These cars are slower, but more challenging and will give some good racing!

The V8 super cars

The Ford Mustang carries on a long tradition of Ford involvement in Supercars competition. DJR used this Mustang to claim its 100th victory in Supercars competition in 2019. Supercars can produce upwards of 635 horsepower with a huge 5.0 liter V8 engine. They can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 3.2 seconds, and hit a top speed of nearly 300 km/h.

Holden is one of the most prominent brands in Supercars action and the Commodore ZB is part of this. It has significantly expanded Holden’s lead on the most wins in Supercars history, a number which totals well over 500 at the end of the 2019 season. It too is powered by a 5.0 liter engine and is up to the challenge against the Fords on any track.

Porsche 718 Cayman

The 718 Cayman is currently the new kid in the block. It is the latest car to be added to iRacing, the first of the expected GT4 series and has received a very warm welcome by many drivers. This is partly because it combines 425 horsepower with the nimble, approachable GT4 platform, and partly because of the popularity of the Porsche brand.

It is responsive in its handling, sounds great, looks like a dream and is a whole lot of fun to drive. That’s why the 718 Cayman GT4 Clubsport is also popular as a track day car around the world.
